DRM — Digital Rights Management — technology for copyright protection
DRM, or Digital Rights Management, is a set of technologies designed to protect copyright.
These systems restrict unauthorized access to video content.
DRM services are primarily needed by content rights holders. For example, film studios may prohibit online cinemas or TV channel websites from showing their movies if DRM protection is not used.
The technology is built into browsers or device firmware where the video is played. Each device
family has its own DRM vendor. For instance, Apple uses its own DRM soluyion — FairPlay. To display
video content via FairPlay, it is necessary to obtain keys and a certificate from Apple for video encryption.
For Google products, their Widevine Modular DRM solution is used.
We have combined support for multiple DRM vendors into a single product — Multi-DRM.
Our DRM LIVE Packager tool, available for Linux and FreeBSD, performs real-time conversion of audio and video streams from RTMP, RTSP, or UDP formats to HLS/DASH. It offers a choice of DRM backends tailored to your needs: Widevine, Playready, FairPlay, WisePlay. Additionally, it supports processing SCTE-35 markers in the stream (these markers are generated by broadcast equipment and indicate ad insertion points).
For Video on Demand (VOD) content, we provide the DRM VOD Packager. It converts videos from MP4 to HLS/DASH formats and protects them using the aforementioned DRM backends.

FairPlay Streaming (FPS) is a DRM technology designed to manage video access on iPhone, iPod, iPad, Apple TV, iTunes, iTunes Store, and App Store.
To enable Apple FairPlay protection, you need to obtain keys from Apple (navigate to the «Request Deployment Package» section). This requires company registration in Apple’s database (using your DUNS number), payment of an annual fee of approximately $100, and confirmation of rights to content.
Our service can be used with the Flussonic server. For MPEG-DASH format, Widevine and PlayReady are used, while HLS is protected by FairPlay. WisePlay supports both MPEG-DASH and HLS formats.
Integration is implemented via the Secure Packager and Encoder Key Exchange (SPEKE) protocol. Keys are exchanged between our key server and Flussonic over an encrypted HTTPS channel.
We provide integration with the AWS Elemental platform. For MPEG-DASH format, Widevine and PlayReady are used, while HLS is protected by FairPlay.
Integration is implemented via the Secure Packager and Encoder Key Exchange (SPEKE) protocol, enabling secure key exchange for all AWS Elemental products: Live, Delta, MediaConvert, MediaLive, and MediaPackage.
